How to Build a Clear RF Component BOM for Purchasing Teams

Practical product and purchasing information for RF engineers, manufacturers and component buyers.

Technical note: Check current product listings, specifications and engineering documentation before selecting a part. Product options and availability may change.

A bill of materials is a communication tool

A good RF bill of materials (BOM) tells purchasing exactly what engineering approved. Vague lines such as “RF transformer” or “ferrite” invite substitutions and delays. For recurring production, precise specifications can matter as much as purchase price.

Identify each component unambiguously

Use the full manufacturer or catalog part number, product family, selected options and quantity. For configurable CCI parts, record choices such as winding and material selection. Links to the RF Transformers, Ferrites and Coax Wire categories can help buyers locate the intended catalog entry.

Attach documentation and approved alternatives

Include relevant drawings, application notes or manufacturer data sheets where available. If engineering permits substitutes, list those separately with the approving contact; do not leave purchasing to infer equivalence from a similar-looking part number.

Separate availability from technical approval

A technically approved part can still have a long lead time. Track requested dates and quoted availability on a purchasing worksheet without changing the engineering requirements. If a part is unavailable, send any suggested alternative through the normal engineering approval process.

Make recurring purchases easier

Maintain revision control for the BOM and document which suppliers, part options and quantities were actually ordered. A clean purchasing history reduces the chance of receiving a different configuration in a later production run.

Ask CCI for a detailed quotation

CCI supports business purchasing inquiries for its manufactured transformer families and distributed RF components. Use Corporate & OEM Customers or Contact Us and include the exact BOM line items, quantities and any required documentation.
