Ordering TUI and TUO Transformers: A Checklist for OEM Buyers

Practical product and purchasing information for RF engineers, manufacturers and component buyers.

Technical note: Check current product listings, specifications and engineering documentation before selecting a part. Product options and availability may change.

Two related families with different roles

Communication Concepts manufactures TUI and TUO transformer lines for different positions in RF matching systems: TUI is offered for input matching and TUO for output matching. That's a starting point for part selection, not proof that two devices with similar physical dimensions can be substituted. Compare the intended position in the assembly and the applicable drawing before selecting a part.

Confirm winding configuration

The TUI and TUO product pages offer configurations identified by 2, 3 and 4 turns, associated with nominal impedance ratios of 1:4, 1:9 and 1:16. Purchasing teams should include the chosen version on quotes and purchase orders instead of specifying only “TUI” or “TUO.”

Check the physical requirements

Both families are described using semi-rigid coax winding construction, and their listings mention optional custom lead bends. Mechanical fit matters: a part may meet an electrical requirement but still be wrong for a particular enclosure or mounting arrangement. Attach the applicable dimensional drawing when requesting a nonstandard bend.

Clarify the operating environment

The published TUI and TUO descriptions cover a broad range of applications but also note conditions that affect lower-frequency use and possible band segmentation. An engineer should confirm the actual intended frequency, matching requirement, and system design rather than applying the broadest catalog range to every configuration.

Prepare a quote request

A useful OEM inquiry contains the specific TUI or TUO variant, target quantity, desired solder finish, whether custom lead forming is needed, drawing references, and target delivery schedule. Keep recurring production orders tied to a documented approved version to avoid substitutions.
